He is on lead rein yes. He has his feet in the leathers above the stirrups this is what the owner has requested he do

No boots would prevent his foot getting stuck in the stirrup if his foot is in the leather. This is my opinion is very dangerous should he fall, and trust me even the safest of lead rein ponies can suddenly spook and the rider fall even if your holding them. It even worse it fall as they can't released the foot, the potential for damage is enormous. The point if safety irons is the rubber comes off if the rider falls and therefore prevents them getting their foot stuck and being dragged!
If the owner insists in him rising like that I would either remove the stirrups completely and hold him or not let him ride

If I remove the stirrups he would probably fall off! He wiggles too much. I can't not let him ride as he gets stroppy d his sister rides and he didn't. I will look at perhaps outing more twists in the leathers around the top of the stirrups to shorten them

For adults general wear wide fitting shoes, try Hotter, the only place I can get everyday comfortable shoes.

I have twin boys who have just turned 3 and they both ride in tuffa joddy boots, one has super wide feet and these fit nicely. I hate seeing long boots on children, even now my everyday riding footwear is mountain horse boots and chaps
