there are plenty of quality miniture shetland foals around, colts start from £100, fillies a little more, at the auctions they can be cheaper. i know it is very nearly christmas, but dont be rash, they are not rare!

i just put shetland in the search bar on horse mart, there are a couple of pages of them, some coloured, dun, palomino both sexes from £150 and some broken to ride from £375.
on horsehunter there are 11 pages of them and alot of regd foals for £200 and under good luck

You get what you pay for, sorry but if you have a very limited budget maybe you should wait a pony is for life not just for xmas, smite away i not bothered but how sad will your son be if you bought something cheap and not that brill and never got a look in in any class, rather than him expecting it why dont you get a jar and start saving for a decent one, also maybe a mini horse but still need good care ( worming farriery teeth and vets) so for a 35 guniea pony they buying isnt the expensive part ( off soap box now but maybe you should think twice for your reasons for buying they are not a toy to be thrown out by boxing day !)

My daughters pony was from a dealer that got him at the sales as a foal and paid peanuts for him and he's been the cheapest pony and the best pony we have ever had, as a yearling and two year old he was not the prettiest but as a five year old he changed into a swan. If stayed as a ugly duckling we'd still love him, he's not a total saint but will teach my daughter to ride.
On the other side of the coin you can pay loads of money and it can be a disaster.
Good luck with what ever you get, they all need lots of TLC and money. ;D

hi emmajane. its not a case of not being able to afford to keep a foal as i've had horses of my own for over 20yrs. its not havin loads of money to go out and buy expensive ponies when my son has been let down by his father. the foal would have a home for life and be very well looked after as is my sons 22 yrs old that is pictured in the picture section.. also just because a pony is cheap does not automatically mean its going to be rubbish. we are not looking for a top class hoys foal just something that my son will have fun [and hard work] with that he can love.... merry christmas

I dont know you from adam but the wording of your original posting re wanting a pony for xmas and in a hurry provoked my response, if you can provide a good home etc then go for it but just sometimes better to sit and wait a while for the right one, or at least a half decent one, rather than something bought in haste.

I'm a big believer in fate, the right one will come along for him and it will be worth the wait and the disappointment. I was once heartbroken after being let down badly over a pony I had set my heart on - but when I look back now I'm glad because the one I ended up with was so much better. Give your son a big cuddle and tell him you'll find the right one and he can help to choose it.
Then get a voodoo doll of his dad and stick lots of pins in all the most painful places!

make him a poster - with a pic ( of one he may like- you could find one somewhere on internet) write a message pop in a envelope - or tie to a cuddly toy and present on xmas day ( i know not the real thing but at least the throught that he will get one is there)
I ve just done the same for my daughter for a driving experience in a ferrari ( she wouldnt appreciate another pony - she actually tells me NOT to buy anymore ( 14 under 12 hands) but she still looks!
Hope u find one
