And the best of all!! 'He is a different type of Highland, but very good of his type.'What a load of old twoddle! How many types are there? The animals either meets the breed standard or it does not. Surely the Olympia winner should be the perfect representation of the traditional breed standard?! It was not really a good example of its breed. There was obviousley some other reason why it stood top.

Vickie if you check the actual history of the Herd that he comes from you will see that he is from a great line of highlands.

a rider who is so close to a judge should stand down and let someone else ride the pony then half of the moaning on this web site would not be going on .the true winner was katey marriot

Lets have some clues! I think people have a right to know if this is going to go on! Then something can be done about it before it all goes too far down the line and next years winner is a fix too!

so far this is all rumour mongering, which has been put forward by guests, instead of spending all your time worrying what others are doing, spend that time on your own animals you may stand a chance of giving them a run for their money.

Good luck to everyone aiming to qualify next year! We shall be trying.... It isn't fair to say that the standard isn't top to all the people who have spent days, weeks, months actually getting there and I think they put the uttermost preporation into the day. Yes, some of the horses may have been on their toes, but I don't think you can blame them concidering it's such a mindblowing environment. Good on everyone there last year and I wish everyone luck in 2009!

,the nps should now look at alan robertsons past behviour with the winning rider this result should never have happened at this show or any show i think you should look at the marks before slating his judging, as BOTH judges didnt give it the top marks. and alan robertson is one of the straightest judges ive ever met!

Sticking my neck out here; this is Horse Gossip after all! I thought there were some lovely ponies at the final but IMO only one of them stood out to me and did a fantastic show. I was very sorry to see he wasn't even placed in the top 6 (although he was just outside it). I know from lots of conversations with people that many admired the same pony and thought he was in with a shout.
I thought some of the well known ponies looked great but just weren't on top form and didn't perform as well as I have seen them do in the past. I do acknowledge though that it is the most difficult show to prepare for and, while I would love to qualify, I don't envy those trying to keep hairy natives in show condition in terms of fitness and coat condition at the time of year our natives should be at their hairiest.
I do think it's the pinnacle of our showing calendar but I also wish it was held at a different time of year!

well said guestless, have some karma I totally agree that it is at the wrong time of year, but then what's Christmas without going to Olympia?! I have to say that I loved the full range of highlands that were there and even though some people say that certain animals are not good Representatives of their breeds, I think you have to take into consideration how much work, effort and love when into the day and how gorgeous all the horses looked. I don't think anyone can say the standard is slipping, perhaps you're all just getting more criticizing but as I have said, well done to everyone there living their dream and good luck to all us normys who want to have a go! x ;D

I don't envy people trying to keep their pony at it's best at the wrong end of the year either Guestless.
I agree with you. It's a pity Olympia is so late, and while asking for the moon, I would like to see it held in a different place !

Well said guestless, have a karma IMO you should get rid of the guest posting. How many of you guests had a pony in the final? Is it sour grapes or are you just naturally miserable ?

I did have a pony in the final. There is no use getting rid of guests unless you ban multiple user names, and yes I have had multiple user names, mainly to stick up or defend someone, but I would be quite happy to have just one user name if it applied to everyone. The trouble is some people just join make a few derogative posts and then leave again. Maverick, one judges excuse to us for putting a pony above us that did not do a very good show, our mane wasnt long enough. I personally prefer it if they said nothing
