I know it sounds strange but tell your daughter to let go of her rains all together my pony will fidget if daughter holds on to her. Also try scratching pony's neck try to keep them both relaxed

As well as your rider taking contact off the reins she/he also needs to relax the leg. I know its difficult to get a chid to understand how to 'take the leg off' but I am sure you can find a way for her/him to understand what you mean. Try damp cotton wool in the pony's ears and also use Rescue Remedy, which was 'legal' in my showing days,I bought it from Health Shops and Chemists also stock it. Put two drops in the water bucket every day and put two drops on pony's tongue just before entering the ring and also the same for you. Do not discuss the problem with the rider, at home or at the show, as they unconciously 'stiffen' in the line-up. Do not carry a cane, regardless of the dress code. Breath deeply, relax the shoulders, wear a hat and clothes that are comfortable. In the line-up try to stand a bit behind the other ponies and if you are pulled top then stand slightly in front of the rest of the line-up. Don't discuss the problem with the rider or family or friends as it just exacerbates the problem. Have to say I never solved the problem with a similar pony of mine so I took it off the lead rein and she spent the rest of her life doing gymkhana's, which both pony and child really loved but I did'nt! Best of luck.

I had an issue like this with my last pony. I practised at home and the minute he did it would rein back 4 or 5 strides, then ask again to stand (with relaxed rein). It did sort the problem for him.

My horse was a nightmare for standing still last year. I tried rein back with him which made him do bunny hop like rears. Scratched the neck relaxed reins etc nothing worked. This year he has been as steady as a rock! For him it must of been a case of age and experience.

our little pony is the same, will not stand still when lined up for the judge or in line up drives me crackers! have mainly done in hand so far, one ridden class with daughter on board and he us just the same either way. I wonder as he s only 6 and has only done a few shows so far whether this will improve with age and experience. might try the rein back thing though, sorry to muscle in in your thread
