we have owned him for nearly 7 months. At the last show 2 weeks ago whilst she was doing an equitation class he wouldn't leave the line up (judge heped), when she did get him going he kept pulling back to the other ponies. He has started to try to do it when out riding. I have her on the lead rein to go past a particular field but am encouraging her to shortern her reins and kick him on. He is turned out with other ponies, but does often have to hack out on his own, very occassionaly we have company. She's 10 years old and the pony is 12. Any advice please.

Edit - your post further down on this thread is fine, but this one was a blatant advert which offered no practical help and so belongs in the advertising area only.

If you have other people on the yard you could ride practice riding away from others and really reward him when he does it right and make a big fuss of him. Practice standing in a line up and get him to walk away. In your show ask the judge if your pony could stand away a little in the line up until he stops napping. Tell your daughter when the rider in front if her has gone out to do their show piece to start waking her pony up and get him listening ready to walk out for the judge. Our pony stands lovely in the line up and switches off which us great with a kids pony but the little riders need to remember to wake them up before walking out for their turn.
