Hi anyone experienced breeders?? I have a litter of 14 day old shih tzu puppy's (5) one of which is considerably smaller than the rest 125g compared to the rest averaging around 350?! I want to help her feeding as she seems to be getting pushed out I am sitting with her and the mother as much as I can and even taking the others away from the mother for short periods of time so she gets chance to feed though I feel I want to supplement her, I have the royal canin puppy milk pack though she doesn't seem to like it??? Has anyone else had this problem with royal canning as I have a litter of 5 weeks old jr pups too and they won't touch it either? It is in date and I have wracked my brains trying to help the little one and do not want to loose her

You can but a tub of stuff from pets at home but I can't remember the name (lactol or lactose or sumthing like that)but I'd speak to your vet before giving anything. Good luck hope she's ok :-)

I went through this with my litter of pugs last Xmas. All I'd say is keep trying. Once she realises there will be no stopping her. It's hard work. I hand reared a pug from 2 days old on royal Canin. He was 2/3 smaller than all the rest.
Make sure the formula is mixed spot on. We halved the initial quantity so we were using half a scoop of milk and a full scoop of water. Also temperature plays a massive part. Test it on the back of your hand. And try letting pup sit in your hand in a towel and angle the bottle so its more like mums teat.
It really is trial and error and I feel for you. It is so painstaking but if pup pulls through it is the most rewarding thing ever.
Sadly you may also need to accept that some just dont pull through. Keep trying though. Good luck

Skinners do a puppy milk powder, we sell loads of it.. Works a treat, try your local feed merchant for teats & bottles too..
Good luck..

yes we used RC bottle It was really hard and sometimes he wouldn't feed, we nearly lost him several times and just when we were on the brink of giving up he would start drinking again.
We didn't follow the times on the feeding schedule just the amounts in time periods if that makes sense. If it says they need 25ml in 24 hours we made sure he had that rather than him having it split into exact amounts over 5 feeds as he would sometimes refuse it.
If you can get the teat in her mouth and squeeze a little out so she gets a taste for it.
Out of interest is your b@@ch on RC food??

I can't think of anything else but perseverance. I know our boy had me in tears on numerous occasions when he wouldn't drink as you can see them deteriorating in front of you and it feels hopeless.
Good luck
