She looks like shes got enough bone to do 153cm shp's, but it would just depend on the judges type, start of at small shows and see how it goes

I'm 25, she has 8.5" of bone.
I'm off to a local show this weekend but would like to attempt to turn out to type if possible as it's generic exc 14.2hh and veteran classes. Do I need to acquire a velvet browband for her, or a hunter style bridle? She's currently in a slightly raised bridle (standard sabre) and a neue schule hanging cheek snaffle.

I would use a hunter style bridle, and dress for a hunter class with a tweed jacket & plain browband.

I would use a hunter style bridle, and dress for a hunter class with a tweed jacket & plain browband. Thanks, what bit would be correct? A Pelham? I've not done any showing before, apart from one class where I tried to pass her off as a PB M&M but we didn't place - she's not connemara enough obviously!

If it's local showing they may have a few different classes. Sports horse, hunter, open showing, over 148cm showing and veterans and I also would turn her out as a hunter. Plain flat bridle and tweed jacket :-)

A Pelham or double is technically correct, but if your horse is happy in a snaffle there's no need to change it, especially as you're just starting out. You could try her in a Pelham if you want and if you're both comfortable with using one, but you don't have to, especially at local level

Stock or tie for me? Tweed is a medium to light green. Does she need a pelham or will a snaffle (pref her hanging cheek) suffice? She does not need anything stronger than the snaffle. I do have a kimblewick if that's more appropriate? Can I use a leather curb if I have to have a pelham?

tie, a stock is for evening performance, try and find one that matches your tweed

Didn't see your post smalley, thanks, I might try her in the pelham and see how she goes. But think I may swap to a leather curb if it's allowed. Tie it is, I have a burgundy and a green one somewhere, both with gold dots on. I always thought the green went better with the tweed. Just need to locate a hunter bridle now, thought I had one but beginning to think I sold it. Am wondering whether I could just turn a browband round to the flat size and whether that would look ok

I don't use a curb on my ponies as none of them need it. A leather one is fine though. Good luck get some pictures.

She needs broader leather. This is too fine for a SHP. You also need to look into a straight cut saddle for future shows.

Just need to locate a hunter bridle now, thought I had one but beginning to think I sold it. Am wondering whether I could just turn a browband round to the flat size and whether that would look ok She would need a thicker bridle, perhaps you could borrow one until you can buy one as it's short notice? Is her mane pulled short enough to plait? If you don't have a numnah (preferably brown) that is the same shape as your saddle then don't use one. I do have a soft spot for greys ...good luck and have fun

Her mane will be short enough to plait by the weekend. It only takes 15 mins or so to pull it to a respectable length, it's only tb thickness thankfully. Judyh, she's not really a show horse, she's primarily a low level eventer/ SJ horse, but has been forced to have a summer off jumping and high impact activities (my choice, not forced upon me by vet) so were having a summer of doing odd showing classes.
I have a black dressage saddle and a brown GP (that in the pics). I'm presuming the GP would be the most appropriate from its colour, or would the dressage be a better bet?
And thanks, will need all the luck I can get, having been placed last last weekend with my cob mare in both classes. Again, exc 14.2hh and veteran classes, and we get placed below horses who are ridden recklessly (rider causing horse to nearly fall over), same horse leaping and rearing, and the rider of said horse shouting to the judge for the whole thing. In the pics, I don't mean to sound sour, but mine looked much better than hers (uncontained, on the bit on front end, back end in the next county). I usually am happy for those who beat me, after all, if its fair and rightly awarded then I have no problems but I just don't understand how or why we were placed in that way.
Tbh it's put me off showing her again. I plan to try the above mare, but she's considerably sharper so depending on her mood, I'm not expecting much!

I just don't understand how or why we were placed in that way. It sometimes happens like that, you sometimes wonder what on earth the judge is looking for. But it's important to remember that the judge only sees a snapshot of what is happening in the ring, they can only see what's happening in front of them Tbh it's put me off showing her again. I plan to try the above mare, but she's considerably sharper so depending on her mood, I'm not expecting much! Please don't let it put you off, showing should be fun
