For the last 2 days I ha e been at he Yorkshire show. It used to be exciting watching the classes and championships , people used to clap and cheer especially for the m&m classes/ championship and the cuddy but there was a hardly a cheer and a bit of a clap, this is what I find boring . The final straw was the shp championship the poor rider got a 5 second clap...... I remember winning in the white rose ring ( quite a few times) and the crowd cheered me on and I galloped for the crowd that were there to watch the best pony win . It made my day

Such a shame. Maybe if you'd have started the cheering everyone else would have joined in!! Lol

maybe the audience wasn't impressed with the results! Every m&m class I watched minus the F/D there was a brilliant atmosphere and clapping

The audience were asked to keep quiet at the end of the Cuddy. Anyone could see the 3 year old who finally won it on his hind legs in panic at the cheering. He is unbroken and I personally thought a little consideration was needed. This is totally different from a ridden class.

Hmmm but that 3yr old has just qualified for HOYS. How, if it can't cope with a county show atmosphere is it ever going to cope at hoys???

I quite agree Philippa ,since when has the audience been asked to keep quiet at a county show , youngstock need to learn , and in the Cuddy manners should be paramount , or am i being insensitive

no you're right fanfarefan, There is no way that a pony that is going to HOYS shouldn't be able to cope. It was rearing and throwing it's self about, I was surprised it got it because I thought that they would be bad manners and as you say cuddy manners should be paramount?

It depends on how much the 3 year old had been show previously, surely? Where else, other than at a show, would it get the experience of all the clapping and cheering?

at home of course, gather your friends and practice LOL. fair enough it needs the practice but surely it should have either been knocked or not got it? The pony is beautiful but manners should play a large part.

Every cuddy i have watched the atmosphere is electric! It has set a few of mine of when i have been in a nearby ring. If you are trying to qualify then practice makes perfect. If it gets upset the horse will find Hoys very stressful.

No comment whether or not it should have won, every animal in there was special and it is judges personal preference but it is a 3yr old with 3 months to work on the nerves

We said that too, especially in the SHP championship. What I found saddest though was that the majority of people in the class didn't even crack a smile. I was quite shocked to see the reaction of one of the riders who got pulled in first in a large class. I don't think I saw her smile once, even when she went on to win the class.
