My pony is getting fatter and fatter and this week she has really dropped and is wobbling. She's been on a diet for weeks on end and is gaining rather than losing. We have no grass and she is having pony sized nets (shes a big 14.2) and no feed. She got into a field when we was away with another herd and not sure what was in that field, there was mares in there but not sure if What else, Just wondering what the symptoms of her being in foal? She would be due August if there was any possibility of her being in foal... Any advice would be much appreciated x

Has she been in season? She would very likely have started to bag up by now if she is due in August. Also, if you watch her belly when she has a drink of water, that is a good time to see the foal kick.

We had the same ish problem, except we got told our pony was NOT in foal by the stud owner and a vet. I brought her back into work, had her out showing when I notice she was getting a bigger tummy but her feed/haylage/daily turnout had not changed. We tried the water trick and there was something going on, So we got our own vet back out who surprisingly told us she had between 6-8 weeks left. And we ended up with a lovely coloured colt! What a surprise

Well her tummy seems to have dropped this last week, and until now I've thought nothing of it, but I haven't seen her in season, and this week she has stood at the gate very quiet, wanting to be in her stable all the time, I just put it down to the heat but she doesn't seem herself. She's 18/19 now so you would think being on small proportions and no grazing (there's nothing on our fields) she would be losing quite quickly with age, but nothing only gaining. I will have a look when she is drinking (which is also a lot recently but may be the heat) Thankyou guys! X

My mare still came into season when she was in foal, but she didn't bag up until 3 days before. The day before she had the foal she isolated herself away from the other ponies in the field & was (unusually) quiet. Has she been in work?

I would guess that she could be in foal, but if I was you I would call a vet and find out to be certain as if she isn't you may have another problem, the Vet should also be able to advise how long she has to go if in foal good luck start knitting the booties just in case !

Is there any reason why you don't get your vet to do a pregnancy test? That is what I would do.
