Hi Can i show my horse in a liverpool driving bit? Hes a 15.3hh Palomino Section D but he can be strong sometimes and has been ridden in this bit ever since i got him. He goes really well in it. He is 7 years old and this year he will be being tried in a pelham then slowly introduced to a double. Would a liverpool be ok to show in just for now though. I dont want to go to HOYS etc. just do local shows for now Thanks xxx

Where do you have your rein on the liverpool?

I am a judge and fully conversant with liverpool driving bits, as my ex husband did private driving. I feel that is where they should be, and I would knock you in the ridden ring for wearing one. The pelham or Kimblewick should do the job for you.

Milliesmum - On the 1st slot down as this is where he is driven on but he will go on the ring. Gadabout - thank you, i understnad what you mean. But to Me, its the horse what should be looked at NOT what it has in its mouth. Thank you

I think a pelham would have a very similar action. I don't know what mouthpiece your liverpool has but you could try a pelham with a similar mouthpiece.
I think unfortunately you would get marked down for using a liverpool in the show ring, however it depends if the improvement in his way of going would get you enough marks to offset the ones you would lose for the bit? If you are just going out to give him some miles on the clock, then I would carry on but if you want to compete seriously you need to think about changing.

hi again Yes I am hoping to get him going in a pelham later this year hopefully he wont be too much fuss. I may try him in a kimblewick as I have one in his size and same mouth peice (straight) thanks everyone xxx

A kimblewick isn't ideal for the ring either Go for a pelham in the same mouthpiece as his Liverpool, with 2 reins
