I don't know details and I don't know which charity/sanctuary but some silly person posted how outraged they were that their local rescue place was having a few of their oldies pts!! Why do people get outraged over this? Do people not realise that these local rescues struggle from day to day with funding. Far better to have the oldies pts than cutting down on their care due to lack of money IMO. Sorry to moan but dogooders like the people commenting on how awful it was do my head in!!!

I wish more of them would do this also some of the not so good health ones theres a charity near me which keeps them alive too long and spends far to much on ill lame never to be sound animals who dont have a great quality of life and in doing so run out of space and funds to take on and help any more , why oh why dont they do the right thing and have them pts and help the younger ones whoi have a chance of a good long life ?

It is much kinder to have the oldies pts in my opinion, they struggle as they get older with teeth going rotten/ arthritus etc... why do people keep them alive? and why do people think its kinder to do so. No sorry I'm all for putting ponies to sleep if they cannot be kept how they should be or if they are struggling - surely its much kinder to think of them and not yourself.

Totally agree with above. A horse/pony has no concept of tomorrow, they worry about the here and now. So it is only human sentiment that prevails. Far better PTS at the right time than hanging around in a poor/uncared for state.

Agree with putting oldies to sleep as they are far more difficult to rehome than youngsters.
We had our cat from Cats Protection as we felt it was better to give an abandoned cat a home and we will do the same again in the future.

We have a local pony sanctuary that is open to the public. It was refreshing to find out that they have them PTS when they can no longer maintain condition and have health problems which can not be addressed simply. They will give things a chance but have not the resources to spend a lot of money on one animal. They also said that because they have a lot of non horsey visitors and they expect that everything should be well covered that it was sometimes better to have them PTS than have the RSPCA breathing down their neck constantly. I had a look at one charities website and the list of reasons of when the would rehome was so restrictive that its a wonder they ever rehomed anything.
