Is this for in hand showing?. The Welsh seem very keen on this "keep them in the dark" idea.I have seen ponies and cobs kept in dark windowless stables so they come out wide eyed and full of themselves. Not quite sure who you can report it to as its not cruelty but its certainly an unpleasant practice.

Not cruelty!!!!!!!!! Ate you for real.... It's dreadful behaviour and is abuse!!! By that I think the person meand if reported its not a case that RSPCA ect would take as life and death therefore not serious which is ridiculous people who do this need action taken against them

Whilst I agree with the comments above I hope people dont tar everyone who shows welsh ponies with the same brush!!! I have bred and shown welsh ponies at county level and so have quite a few people I know over the years and not one of us has ever done this to our ponies! It is a disgusting practice and if it is the only way you can get your pony to have presence then maybe they shouldnt be in the showring in the first place!! All my ponies have natural presence and sometimes too much lol. If a rosette is all that matters to people then they shouldnt be showing at all.

I thought about replying to this post earlier but would have ended up in hot water. You've summed up my sentiments and experience entirely.

how would you feel gilbertgrape if you were blindfolded for 3 days? would you consider they were being cruel to you?? Abuse is cruelty, and if the RSPCA are not prepared to prosecute then all they would be doing is to live up to my opinion of them

A friend told me she visited some friends last night who were getting their pony ready for a show and they were blindfolding it for 3 days and feeding it up so it had more presence in the ring! Why would they do that! Surely a rosette is not worth terrorising your pony for!? Rant over :/ Quite horrified by this, and yes, I do consider it cruelty and abuse. If it is correct, something needs said, and loudly.

This really does break my heart! These people are sad low lifes... To me they are torturing the horses and something needs to be done about it!! Maybe they need blindfolding for a few days and locked in a dark room see how they feel, really infuriates me

Agree milliemoo10 heartbreaking, the ponies must be so scared. How can people be so cruel.
I do think there seems to be a lot of negativity towards welshies on here. Now I have to say I do not show - only taken our Welsh Sec C to do fun classes at local show - but find it concerning that welshies seem to get a lot of derogatory comments (it maybe just the posts I read) but well said kt66horses and philippa for standing up for the welshies.

Then they bring them into the ring and expect you to be able to judge an animal that can't walk straight & won't behave. Then they rant and rave at the 'judging'!!
