So . . . my OH has decided he wants to learn how to ride, fine.
BUT, I begrudge him paying £20 for 30 mins, to be 'taught' by someone who constantly looks at her phone, starting off in one arena, moved to another, then another. Position not corrected, told to smack with stick rather than use legs correctly!
I'm frustrated as I know I could teach him, but don't have anything suitable for him to ride at the moment (one retired, one recovering from tweaking a ligament and one 3 yo).
What I really need is access to a 'saint' for me to teach him on, I would happily pay someone for the use of a horse and/or assist with yard duties!
Any suggestions?!

You could answer some share/part loan ads in your area? Or spread the word through your horsey friends. Someone might lend you their horse for a couple of times a week? I would put an ad on here and preloved asking for this service. Or how about asking the riding school? See if they would lend one to you?

Assuming most men are like boys and are not going to listen to you I would look to buy or loan the equalant of a FR. We have a14.2 one it these, never going to be a world beater an the most basic instructions are followed, he specialises in boys with a short Attentsion span.

I would thank your lucky stars that he is showing an interest and think the £20 well spent

Honeypot, that's definitely what we need to borrow, just in 15hh+ size!
I'm grateful he's interested, just frustrated that he's not getting taught properly. He shows my highland youngster in hand quite happily, is just a complete novice on board!

I think you've got the right idea hack ! Once they've got the basics , men just want to get going , they're not bothered about the refinements or looking pretty ! Mr F had never sat on a horse before he met me and would never win a prize for style nowadays , but he's brill when it comes to doing the fast work round the fields and with 5 in work it's great to have a helping hand . Wouldn't exactly class mine as 'saints' either but whereabouts are you ?

We're in Golborne, near Warrington. Thinking about it maybe we don't need a total saint for him to ride, something that scratched his ever growing ego would be nice!! Listening to him you'd think he'll be off hunting soon!!

I think the problem is with his riding instructor as much as anything else. Very unprofessional behaviour - I'd be going to a different riding school, there are several in the area. Years ago I had great private lessons at Bold Heath after some very unsatisfactory lessons at another local riding school (similar to your description in you opening post). I learned so much from riding a well schooled dressage schoolmaster who always did what I asked him to do - which wasn't always what I thought I was asking him to do lol! My riding improved no end as I got instant feedback from the horse.
