Hiya Brown is traditionally correct, but like many old traditions I dont think you would lose a class over it! I know a very successful producer who only uses black tack as she says it looks smarter! I have gone for black because I have a dark dapple grey and black looks better on him!

Hmm I have never seen a black horse not look smart in dark brown tack. Well used & oiled tack is plenty dark enough IMO and I'm a stickler for tradition. I have a piebald and don't think his brown tack looks out of place at all.

I use a brown suede saddle on my piebald and I think it looks neat an tidy. I really cannot stand black tack.

I love brown tack, and IMO think it looks much smarter than black... Will be buying a havanna saddle in a few weeks ready for the shows =D

I had a black sec D he looked cut inhalf in brown, in summer when the sun was on him made him appear long in the back, a bit like wearing a white girth or a grey wearing a black girth.
so we swapped to a new saddle in black and didnt go back, although I do prefer to keep the traddition on this occasion i had to say black as well as that it appeared to me to draw the attention on the tack in brown where as the black didnt distract from the horse,
9 times out of 10 i would say brown though, deep dark brown, most have a hint of dark bay and can pull it off, unfortunatly this cob was as black as black could get!"

To be honest dark brown is best for the show ring would pick Havanna over black, but also add they wouldnt make the whp saddles and show saddles in black if it weren't excepted.
Personal preferance but brown looks smarter, unless your saddle distracts the eye from the horse.
