I've just brought a 12hh section B lead rein pony for my children. He didn't come with any tack, but was ridden in a wide fylde Samantha. The old owners suggested a Fylde Haydon, as said the seat was deeper and it would help the children more. Is this correct? This saddle would be the only saddle we have for the pony, I'm worried the suede won't stand up to every day riding or be suitable for pony club/hunting/jumping. That made me think that as you can get the Fylde Samantha in part suede, it may be better? Or should I just look for some thing totally different? Thanks in advance!

The Haydons as far as I know are the very shallowest saddle, I don't know the range that well personally but that is what a top producer told me. You may want to look into something else for outside the show ring ie a second saddle, or to use a showing saddle that is designed for riding in every day, that provides more protection for the horse's back from the tree and the rider's weight.
Also, what level showing do you think you will do? I have customers even at the top level using WH saddles for flat showing, and a good WH saddle would be much more versatile for PC and hunting.

For the B's we will only ever use Haydons for them!! Tried the samantha for a short while did not like such a great fit and look 16" we have for a 12.2 B. We also use this at home all the time full leather one we have now do not like the new suede Haydons as much as the old ones we had.

Thanks for all the advice, I've just been on the master saddler website and found a few fitters around my area. I'm going to ring them tomorrow and hopefully get some one out to fit a saddle for every day riding. There's always such a wait though, so I think I will be trying to find a leather Haydon for the time being, as I know it will fit and then my children can start riding their new pony. The first question they ask me after school every day is "have you found a saddle yet?" lol, I'm trying!!
