Hi, I wondered if some one could give me some info on swabbing mares? In particular how much you all paid and for what? Also how many of you have Welsh Ponies and get your mares swabbed / have stallions that you only allow tested mares to? Thanks, Jessica

TO cover a mare/use a Stallion which hasn't been swabbed, is irresponsible. We also Uterine Swab. But I have worried when sending one of our mares to stud that perhaps they don't swab there own mares- makes a mockery of then insisting visiting mares are swabbed- but then I wouldn't have used Stallion at all :/

Hi, This will be the first time we are standing a stallion to outside mares. Having spoken to a couple of people they have never swabbed their welshies to send them to stud. I just wondered what Welsh studs did / requested. I am well aware that it is the norm for most non native stallions to only cover tested mares so I was surprised when people told me this! The cost is something I'm therefore quite interested in as I am wondering whether it would be better to incorporate this cost into the stud fee, that way I know it will happen.

Maybe there are just many more small breeders who have their own stallion(s) and do not stand him/them at public stud, nor send mares out to outside stallions so run an isolated system.
