My 2 weanlings have come out in rather peculiar scabs and wart like lumps around their muzzle, and their noses al ost look like sunburn with scabs on. I noticed it this morning so has happened in last 24 hours. They live out rugged and are hayed every night. The field has very little grass but they do have a large wood chip area where the hay and water is. The chip has been down for a fortnight and the only difference is their hay has been off a slightly wetter bale which had quite a few leaves in. No nettles etc in field. They are in good health and happy for it to be touched. Obviously if it doesn't clear up or gets worse I will bet a vet over the weekend, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas?

My coloured mare gets a similar looking thing if she's touched St. John's wort, either in the grass or dried bits in hay that have got wet again. It usually clears up quite quickly, occasionally I've had to treat with a soothing cream, antiseptic or a barrier cream and that sorts her out.

My 4 year old Welsh B gets it too and I use Sudacream and it usually shifts it.
