Tail bags are my worst nightmare at the moment haha ! Our connie lives in one but I'm yet to find the right one. I like the ones that you can loop up so its not banging between the ponies legs and have found tailgator the best so far BUT when it rains the bag fills up with water !!

I make my own which 'loop up' & they are elasticated at the top with double velcro fastening so never had them fill up with water!

I use both snuggy Hoods and tail gators. Both are very good. I've never had them fill up with water though.

My best tail bags are the nylon sheaths that umbrellas came in and ( the best because it's longest for the Highlands ) one that had tent poles in it .They all have simple velcro fastenings and all stay put . Think outside the box and see what you've got lying around the house .

Also, if I make my own tail bag, does it go right over the dock and fasten with Velcro/elastic? If so, does it not cause any damage to the dock? Hope your foster children are fine? I have a concours outfit suitable for a 14 years plus (size 8/10) if you can put it to good use? Cream satin skirt (heavy and weighted) and black velvet jacket with gold embossing, very classy looking. Can send you photo's if you are interested x

Hiya kateanne , Plait her tail tightly in one long plait, from as high up as you can ( but below the dock ) , to as low as you can . Secure firmly with plaiting bands .Put the plait into your tail bag and fasten the bag by tieing /velcroing the top opening between the plait strands as high as you can so that as much of the plait is in the bag as possible . .The dock/upper part of the tail will not be covered but this is not the bit that gets stained anyway . If the tail bag is too long/ has excess empty bit at the bottom , just wrap some plaiting bands around it .You can leave this on permanently , just brush out and replait once a week or so .If I'm going to a show I put a bag on the washed tail the night before and then in the morning just bandage the dock as normal , and down over the bag, for travelling. Simples . Very interested in the concours outfit - please PM me .

Thank you Flee. I am now the proud owner of two tail bags. Put the first one on last night and it's still there this morning! Cost, nothing, I had everything around the yard or at home, amazing what can be done once pointed in the right direction! Recommend everyone tries to make their own as they can be customised. Only took me an hour to cut to size, sew and finish off, saved me ££££'s. x
