Sorry just have. to get this off my chest again!. we really struggled to find somewhere to put our new pony as so many livery yards are totally against children. Have found private grazing now within sight of our house, Hurrah!. recently logged onto website that offered schooling for showponies/DIY livery. Livery only available to adults no under 14's. I give up! How can you offer schooling for show ponies and not want children on your yard.

i think sometimes the problem is some parents see dropping their child off at the stables as free child care. Most places are ok as long as children are supervised at all times by their parents

The new livery yard that we've put 3 of ours at didn't have a problem with 'children' until the other livery started moaning about health and safety etc etc. She's 15yo, so hardly a child, she can't drive so can't get there on her own anyway, and she's a perfectly responsible and capable young horsewoman. She's been handling and riding entires and breaking in youngstock for 3 years. I don't know why some people are against anyone who is young. It's not exactly the way to encourage young riders is it?
Having said that I have been on one or two yeards over the years that were crawling with unsupervised bratty children who would 'borrow' other peoples things, make mess and not clear up, and were downright rude to people, so I can see both sides.

how about sending pony to a producer for maybe a month and taking your daughter for a lesson at weekends whilst pony is there, you will learn so much in a short time and them put it into practice when back at home

Could it be anything to do with their Insurance?

Thinking of it from the other side of the fence - if you were a yard owner, would you like the parents to just drop the kids off and leave them? I dont, and wouldnt purely because, it gives me pleasure to spend time with my daughter and our ponies...from a h+s point as dancer points out it could be insurance related..
