Hi fellow horsegossipers, just wondering if any of you have had good / bad experiences of using the tailgaiter bags ? I have recently bought a grey pony who has a long but very thin tail and really need to preserve it for the upcoming showing season. I have only ever used the bag before on a pony overnight before a show, but our new pony is turned out daily and his tail is constantly dirty and wet. I want to avoid brushing it as this can pull out hairs and have started to apply supreme products heritage rebuilder. My thoughts are to put the tailgaiter bag on in the field as their website states that this is fine, I'm just worried that he might get caught on something and pull the whole tail off !!!

I use one on my highland, as she has a white tail, used in field no problem, just make sure your plait is secure otherwise it will come off easily.
I wouldn't use it in a field with barbed wire though.

Kitt tailwraps are good, they plait into the tail so are more secure than the bag and they are made of a sort of felty nylon material which i think would just snag and pull away if it got caught on something. I have used one for turnout with no problems. you can buy them on amazon.

I was lucky enough to win a tail bag from tail Gaitor. I love mine and my young pony has worn his in the field no problems

Tailgator bags are great and I DO use them in a field with barbed wire. They do come off in the field now and again, but rather that than a whole tail I'm not a fan of the tail wraps as they're not waterproof and I find the hair within each wrap part becomes mangled when it gets wet......possibly would be okay if you reapplied every day, but I don't have time for that with 9 ponies

Best thing I ever bought for my Highland who has a very long, thick white tail. He wears it in the field all day through the winter and no problems so far.
