feel free to move mods if in the wrong place :-)
OK - so I'm fine at kitting myself out but now my 3yo twins are really getting into riding their Shetland I want to get them proper stirrups and leathers, and having browsed I don't know where to start lol!
Can other mums help please....can I get really short leathers? - and what size stirrups?! - and should I go normal or safety?!
Many thanks

Yes you can get really short and thin leathers. Fylde saddlery are brilliant but pricey. Might pick some up elsewhere cheaper. Defiantly use Peacock safety irons for kids. I hope your kids have lots of fun.

from personal experience I would avoid using safety stirrups, when I was 7 I got my foot stuck in one and was dragged, I was knocked unconscious and took a lot of skin off of my back

Any stirrup needs to be approx. an inch wider than the jockey's footwear to reduce risk.

Agree about the width of stirrups but I would always get safety stirrups - although accidents can still happen, they're far less likely to get their feet stuck in safety stirrups. Also, look on Ebay for inexpensive short leathers. Certainly when my girls were very little I bought them from Ebay and they were fine.
