Hi all, Having recently bought a novice hunter i am needing new riding wear - the long boots i have at the moment are curved tops and i am now needing a more traditional pair - strait tops with garter strap - I'm wondering people's opinions on which are best Any help/advice would be much appreciated Thanks Sarah

I had this problem. I much prefer the "dressage" style boots, I know less correct, but last year I bought a pair of Ariat dress boots. They have a slightly curved top, but not too dressagey!! Only ones I have seen that are traditional were Regent boots, but for me they were too long and very unflattering!!

The Regent boots are probably the most traditional ones available now. Unlike Kirtonian, I actually still prefer the more traditional straight cut boots but they are getting harder and harder to get, especially if you have small feet and big calves like me, lol!
I've got beautiful Sarm Hippique boots for the ring just now and they are very comfy but I am trying to break in a pair of Regents which I got shortened so they will hopefully fit me (once they drop a bit). I think mine are Regent Cotswolds but got them second hand (but nearly new) so not totally sure.

I prefer my dressage style ones because the Regent ones were too long and pinched!! The straight top ones with garter strap are of course more correct in show ring, but afraid comfort had to be a factor too!! They would have given me blisters lol

I had looked at the regents but am i correct in thinking they don't have a zip?? - i have fairly large calves and very short legs so have struggled in the past getting boots to fit! Think i may have to go and try a few pair on lol

Some Regents have zips but they're not as straight cut. It only cost me £15 to get mine shortened

I must admit i dont think the regents look comfy - and unflattering to a short stumpy leg like mine!! - i just want to look correct i guess - i'm definately going to try a few pair out and see how i get on from there - thanks guys!!

If you buy pull on boots with a dressage tops you can get a saddler to cut them down for you to make traditional tops.
Otherwise made yo measure boots are not as expensive as you'd think. Mine are 10 years old and still going strong.

I have Broginis had them for about 6 years now and still look and feel new, I would highly recommend them.
