A bit of advice please people, we have a nice older "small hunter" who has won all the middle level championships, we are wanting to have a stab at county level this year with her, have had her JMB done and got it back, now question is with all the changes etc with SHGB and BSHA we technically have 3 societies to fork out for now? which equates to alot of money? do we stick to BSPS and do their intermediate SH classes or register with the others as well to do small hunter classes? decisions decisions and advice appreciated.

Your age will restrict you in bsps classes if over 25 It also depends to what level you want to qualify Bsps civers RI as well as HOYS in their int SH classes, they also hold as several shows as well as the championship show Associate classes which have sm Hunter..but not to qual RI or HOYs If I have read correctly you only need to pay membership and horse registration to BSHA this yr only for your sm Hunter classes to Q HOYS...but SHGB if you wanted to Q RI in sm hunter classes...

As above, also look to see what classes are available to you in your area as travelling is the biggest expense.

Thanks guys yes I know about age restrictions, my sister rides and is 22, so eligible for intermediates, was looking at both hoys and ri qualifiers but didn't know if it was worth doing smalls aswell with the expense. I'm Linc's based so have the champs and north of England shows at arena UK fairly local.

HOYS and RI Small Hunters are very competitive, great to go in but costly :-) - I would strongly suggest looking at the RI Amateurs classes as well.

Hi There are amateur classes at RI - I do hunters and you have to qualify much the same as open classes, but there are no pros contesting. That's not to say the standard isn't high though! I do the weights, but assume there is an Amateur Smalls class? Check on SHB or the RI schedule. Good luck whatever you decide x
