It's my first year showing my dales and highland pony in hand. I'm planning on wearing a tweed jacket, cream trousers and boots but what hat should I wear?
I've seen people in riding hats, flat caps and trilby hats. Is there something specific I should wear? This will be at county standard.

There is no specific hat for in hand showing. My daughter shows Highlands, a Dartmoor and a Shetland and doesn't wear a hat. She does wear a kilt for showing the Highlands.

I quite like beaglers for in hand. Think they look smart and are better from a safety point of view :-)

I think it's much smarter to wear a hat for in hand showing than not and some societies such as NCPA have a rule that you should wear a hat in the ring.
Like Rebel I think beaglers look the smartest but it depends on the rest of your outfit and to an extent how much you want to spend. A flat cap is much cheaper than a beagler and can be just as smart x

Some county level shows do specify that hats must be worn, so worth checking the schedule for that one first.

Thanks everyone, I have checked and this show only requires under 14s to wear a hat.
On beaglers what is the difference between that and a normal hat other than a lack of straps? Forgive my ignorance.
