I have a youngster who constantly draws his tongue back and gets it over the bit sticking it out to the side. He was going sweetly in a sweet iron snaffle however when cantering getting his tongue over. I had the dentist out and he had 2 wolf teeth out, I have put him in a snaffle bit with a spinner on made by fylde, he is not going as sweet in it but isn't getting his tongue over. I do not want him to get into a habit of putting his tongue over so have kept him in it, however I find it is not very good for steering etc, I am thinking of trying him back in the sweet iron with a rubber tongue loller to see how he goes, I have also ordered a magic bit with a small port and some bit wrap as heard this is good also, I am just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and can offer any help/tips
thank you

I had a welsh d that did this all the time, I tried all sorts and what sorted him in the end was just a simple ported loose ring snaffle.

They normally start it when they aren't comfortable in the bit they're being ridden in. Perhaps it was a reaction to the wolf teeth? I always check for them first before bitting a pony nowadays having been caught out by that one before! I think if he was mine, before I tried changing bits I'd put him back in the original bit, but let him have time loose in the stable in it, as you would when first bitting a young pony, to try to show him that it doesn't hurt any more. I'm a great fan of trying to find the original cause of a problem and sorting it, rather than using bits of kit like spinners to prevent the pony from trying to avoid pain.

We used the bomber, happy tongue bit with a show pony ,it was fantastic ! I've been very interested in these but don't know anyone who has used them, so nice to hear that they have been a successful alternative. I was a bit worried about the height of the port in them and the fact that they're not jointed, as I have a pony with a fleshy tongue and a low palate. The best so far seems to have been a Myler Comfort with a low port, but like the idea of the Bomber Bit. Can you please tell me a little more about it and what ou used it to solve please if you don't mind, as I would really like to try one, but have tried so many I could sell the Bit Banks some lol, so am just seeking more info before spending any more money on bits. Thankyou.

I've got a bomber bit on my mare. She hates any joint or tongue pressure.
Shewas getting worse and worse to the point of putting her head on it's side and shaking it at the same time. Was also very good at fixing and crossing her jaw. A grackle would result in her rearing.
Put her in a bomber bit and she's going like a dream. She's got the happy tongue cherry roller and prefers the pelham which is what I use in the ring. I love the fact that it has very short shanks so doesn't overdo the poll pressure. Only downside is that you don't use a lip strap so I don't think it looks as tidy.
I decided to try the loose ring with the same mouth piece but she wasn't as keep. Bomber made me a hanging cheek as a special order and she loves it.
Although the port looks quite high, it is angled forward so it sits well and is wide so sits round the tongue rather than the port sitting above the tongue.
I know at least one of the bit banks have bombers available for trial, I just wish I'd discovered them sooner.
