I am absolutely furious that someone has felt the need to throw three massive flakes of my hayledge over the gate to my pony on my field. She has a huge net full in her shelter as well as some in a container in middle of field. I have just put a load of wood chip down in front of my gate which now has loads of hayledge all over it and what a waste of three flakes as I know she won't eat it. I am livid. Why can't busy bodies keep themselves to themselves

I wouldn't be pleased either Jenna. I don't suppose you have any idea who did it ? You could make a point of asking them not to do it again if you could find out.

Iv put a sign on the gate saying in no uncertain terms do not do it again. I don't even feed off the floor I feed out of a home made hay hutch which is attatched to the gate (right next to were they've chucked the hayledge on the floor!). Iv also got a plastic crate type thing that's in the middle of the field that also has hayledge in and a massive net in shelter. There's no way id ever out that much out for her because she just wouldn't eat it and now it's going to dry out so I'll have to chuck it away. Grrr can you tell how mad I am.

I know it's annoying, but these people probably did this with the best intentions. Silly yes, misguided yes, but they probably meant no harm.

I'm not suggesting for a minute they meant any harm. But they still shouldn't be doing it

maybe point out to said person that by feeding your horse extra food it runs the risk of developing a life threatening illness. If your pony developed laminitus then you will be sending them the vets bills not to mention the distress it would cause you and your horse.

I wish I knew who the person was. I'm not on a livery year I have my own field and it's not even near any walk ways or paths so someone's had to stop there car and get out and walk round to gate to throw it over. I noticed a little more hayledge on the floor a few days ago so someone's done it again even though I have put a sign up. Guess it's just one of them things. My hayledge was right in front of the gate so easy access to them but iv moved it all Into the hay crate in field and when I get new hayledge I'll be putting t elsewhere.

Maybe a sign saying your pony has a net in her shelter as well as haylage being available in the container would help. It could be some do-gooder who thinks the poor pony is starving or it may just be someone trying to entice the pony over to talk to them by chucking haylage over. I don't think it's really something you can much about if your haylage is accessible to people walking past.

As annoying as this can be, peoples intentions aren't being horrible, I have people on my yard who do it for me. I have two huge nets for my horse to last until I finish work and go down if he finishes then they will throw a bit of Haylege over for him, being the greedy one he is then he eats all this but on my old yard with my mare when people threw Haylege over for her when she didn't actually need any this annoyed me as she dug it in her bed and mixed it all up so when I came down I had to take most of the bed out. I would maybe put a few signs saying please do not feed the horses.

I know there not being horrible they have obviously just thought oh look at that pony she looks like she's got no hay lets put some over. But 3 huge flakes. She probably wouldn't eat that in a week. I put a sign up wen it was first done but it's happened again since so there obviously ignoring the sign. Hay ledge is gone now and will be kept elsewhere. Thing is they have actually had to go out there was as field is not in a place were people walk past.
