Hi Betsy
please can you clarify if you are bringing in the strapped hat rule for evening performances? - ie. no more top hats/pateys/bowlers. There are rumours abound! - and the clarity would be appreciated.
thank you
It has now been confirmed that strapped hats are to be worn by all competitors (and ride judges) in day classes and evening performance, including all side saddle, concours, costume and pairs classes. No top hats, bowlers or pateys

At present it's only SHB with the rule in RI weight and ladies qualifiers
HOYS have moved admin of their hunter qualifiers to BSHA which does not have the hat rule, so pateys/top hats/bowlers can still be worn
It's at the discretion of other shows, affiliated or not, to have the rule

It is a regulation of the East of England Agricultural Showground that all riders(including Ride Judges)wear correctly fitting protective headgear which complies with the latest British Standard of EN1384 1996 / BSEN 1384 1987 with a CE Markat all times whilst mounted. The Company andOrganiseraccept no responsibility for any injury arising from a failure to comply with this regulation.A disclaimer must be signed by any adult aged 18 years and over who wishesto take responsibility for failure to comply with this regulation in the Evening Performance only"

Then they've changed it because I received an email from jenny needham in office confirming no top hats or beaglers in evening performance
id imagine it's changed because people were disappointed and many suggested, via the Facebook page, a disclaimer was the preferred option

Great news everyine regarding strapped hats in evening performances. I've just received the email below off betsy :-) Thank you for your email. We have thought for a long time over the hat rule and were going to insist that everyone wore a strapped hat in the evening performance. At the last minute we amended this – but anyone who does not wear a strapped hat in the Evening Performance(over 18 years) must sign a disclaimer – that we will have available in the show office. This is a very hot topic at the moment but I respect Equifest for listening to their members and allowing adults to make their own choice
