I was just wondering what the horse and rider would need to wear/look like in a show hunter class (or to dress as one in open classes - not all venues do show hunter)?

What size is your horse?
Rider would be in a tweed jacket, depending on age of rider either have their hair in a nice bun and hairnet or in a ponytail with bow for the younger rider. Joddy boots if pony is between 12-14h, any 15h classes and upwards I would expect the riders to be wearing long boots, I personally do not like boots and chaps.
Horse would need to be plaited with their tale pulled (Not cut). A nice simple bride, a plaited browband but no 'bling' on horse or rider. Quarter marks but other then that I like minimum makeup, just some highlighter around the nose and eyes.

Currently 15.2 but likely to shoot up to 15.3 by the end of the year as she's now bum high. What colour tweed would be needed? I have a mid green with various coloured squares - I'm not overly fond of it, I'd love a new one hence the question (when I can afford it). I have long black and brown boots (the brown ones I got in the robinsons sale a few weeks back, half price ). By plaited browband, do you mean flat plaited or rolled? I have a lovely stubben rolled plaited browband, but wonder whether flat would be better for her?

The jacket depends on the horse, I personally like a dark check (brown tweed with a red check) on a dark bay/black pony however a lighter green tweed with lighter check on a grey, bright bay pony but it's personal preference really! If you have a look at the flyde website there is a nice picture of a lovely plaited browband Have a look at some photography sites from hoys ect and you can get a good idea of the overall image.

For a hunter you need to think plain and workmanlike at all times. No garish tweeds, keep everything subtle, whatever colour you go for. Plain flat hunter bridle with plain or plaited flat browband. Straight cut saddle to show off the shoulder, discrete numnah underneath the same colour as the saddle.
