Hi, I am trying to start out as an equine photographer and need some help! I have been trying for a couple of years just through advertising over facebook but not got much response, except for when the word FREE is mentioned! I plan to have an equine calendar of beautiful breeds to work on over the summer and have had lots of willing offers, i'm hoping if i sell it on one of those publishing websites it will get my name out abit? I also have a ''sponsored rider''. My next door yard neighbour, I supply her with clothing, rugs etc to wear at competitions and in return i get to use her as a practice model for different ideas and she can have the pictures. What would you like to see from an equine photographer? What would you pay for a photoshoot? What would you want to pay per print? Would you want any sort of package (IE: Photoshoot + Disc + Prints = £ set price?) I have added some examples of previous shoots so you can get an idea to help with how much i should charge.

I going to be critical here but .... To charge for anything you have to be really good and build up a portfolio of photos, the aim is always to make the horse and rider look good, and you have to be really critical about your work. I would do a photography course and learn about composition and more importantly get someone to critique your work. Join the local photography club and enter their competitions. The photos you've up loaded, you have to think of the buyer. The little girl on the grey, your showing the horses bum at an odd angle and if Mum is buying it she would want to see her daughters face. The grey marbled horse, the angle makes the neck look short, and the girl jumping her position looks awkward. My daughter did a photo shoot for Pony magazine and must have jumped the same jump 30 times to get the right shot, the photographer spent about 2 hours plus with two ponies, to produce 15 photos for the magazine. I would like to add I am rubbish at taking photos, my speciality is dogs sat next to poo, which is never seen before I snap.

Now you've said I can see all the points you made, the only thing I will say to "defend" as such, the picture of the grey the aim of the shoot was to look "magical" in the woods, with the bluebells, kind of like a fairy tale in a way, not look cute,it's the girl I sponsor who helped me out with that one
