Any advice please, we have a min shetland who has a bright yellow fungus type 'thing' in her ear, We have been told by the vet to leave it but it comes and goes, sometime bigger than others. it seems to irritate her and she is unhappy with anyone trying to touch that ear, it looks like a bright yellow mushroom

Although many people have looked at this, I have had no replies. However, further consultation with our excellent vets resulted in a visit and after sedation, all the offending growths removed. This turns out be an excess of keratin that has manifested itself in an ear. Just so if anyone else has this, they will know what it is

Thanks jenn, I have a fair few Shetlands but couldn't help you on this one. Now I know for future reference as they can get very waxy ears so will watch out. Glad yours is ok and turned out to be nothing sinister.

I was going to say to take a sample to test what it was, but you have now discovered what it is. If it is upsetting her then I would get it removed. It is something I have not come across and I doubt many have, hence the lack of replies , so thank you for sharing with us.
