To cut a long story short I have purchased a section C mare whom my instructor says shows 'signs of tongue evasion' and is basically very uncomfortable in her mouth when ridden. My instructor also says she has a shallow pallet. We have taken her right back to basics and have tried her in all sorts of bits, we currently have her in a myler comfort hanging cheek. I just wonderd if anybody had any suggestions of bits we could try that would be more comfortable in her mouth and stop this tongue evasion?
P.s have done all the usual checks, she has had her teeth done and her back done and her saddle is made to measure.

Possibly a Bombers Happy Tongue, this worked very well for a pony who was very difficult to bit. I alternated it with a Neue Schule Verbindend and also a Myler 2604 Comfort Mouth Pelham. I did see some new bits on the market this year at BETA but at this moment in time I just cannot remember what they were, but I do remember thinking how nice they were for the pony I had with similar issues to yours. I'll try to find the literature on them and if I can I will pm you with the details, in case they may be of use to you.

Just remembered they were called Beris Bits. Google them on berisbits.co.uk. Worth a look. Good luck.

I was also going to suggest the neue Schule verdindend. I have a cob who was always putting his tongue over the bit, he did it a couple of times at first in this bit (out of habit I think) but hasn't done it for ages now. They do two different thicknesses. I was advised to go for the thinner one to give him more room in his mouth. They are fairly strong for a snaffle and quite expensive but you could trial one from the horse bit bank if you weren't sure.

Quite often find Verbindend Snaffle for sale on Ebay - check Newly Listed items each day and you stand a good chance of one at a reasonable price, I've often paid the same as I would have done to hire a bit. People will often buy bits and then resell if they don't work out for them, so good way to pick up a bargain with the more expensive bits especially. As regards the Beris Bits, they come with three different degrees of mouthpiece - soft, medium and hard - they are a little similar to the Happy Mouth types or Nathe bits, but much more durable and far higher quality and also have plain or ported types too. Hope this helps.

I would definitely recommend the bombers happy tongue, it has taken 4 years to find a snaffle my fell is consistently comfortable with due to his small motuh and fleshy tongue. For the ring I swear by the neue schule warmblood pelham, it sounds like your mare is objecting to tongue pressure and both these give great tongue relief. Both are expensive but I trialled them from the bit bank first.
