i bought a d mare in foal in feb last year, quiet as a mouse, lived out on her own stabled out on her own i took her for walks all over the place. she had her foal in april and she was weaned in september. mare was moved to my stables further up the road and stabled with my hunter. All was seemingly fine till i wanted to separate them. She will not be on her own, i cant take my hunter out of the stable door before she starts. she panics. but she will quite happily take herself off down the field on her own so i know she is capeable of being on her own, some bad behaviour and some genuinely unhappy alone.
i can ride her down the road on her own if i have a walker with me just incase as she tries to turn round, in this scenario she screams her lungs out. this is the same if i take her in the field riding or lunging or inhand work. she is very strong and gives me a run for my money.
ive put her up for sale hoping a stud home would like her as that would be her ideal home i know shes happy in a herd. but ive been as honest as i can in the advert and its going to put people off.
shes is 100% the perfect pony in company, she will hack for hours, go to the beach, i can sit on her in the field while shes grazing, she is bomproof. i just cannot ride my other horse on our own and having had him as a baby he comes first.
So, im going to end up keeping her i know this i bought her to keep but this has ut a spanner in the works a little. i would like some advise or types of exercises i could try to over come this with her. so we can move on. ive been taking her out on her own for short periods of time but she is so noisey and she upsets the other horses at the yards down the road and she has no regard for vehicles when shes in this mindframe.
is there anything else i can do to maybe get her used to being alone. all i want to do is hack her and show her so she needs to be capable of doing this.
any tips.
