Been off work sick for a couple of months now. Went back for back to work interview today as I'm due back Tuesday and they've given all my hours away to other people!! I'm so angry as I was looking forward to getting back to normal and earning a proper wage instead of SSP which covers very little. Don't quite know what to do. I was so upset I walked out. I'm on a zero hour contract but have worked for them for nearly 3 years and been doing these hours for a good 18 months week in week out. I'm b****y gutted :-(

I don't like these 0 contract hours and don't think it should be allowed. Especially in cases like yours where you have been loyal to the company for some time. Everybody needs to know where they stand in life and the minimum wage you are likely to earn. Good luck finding a new job with contract hours.

If it's a small company having someone away for a couple of months is really difficult, I do sympathise with you, but the work has to get done and if you are away the company has to make changes for the good of the business and everyone who works there,

Go to the CAB, once you have been working certain hours for a long period of time it counts as a contract, you may be able to get things sorted or it may not apply to you, but worth asking

Thanks guys. It's not a small company and the other staff were all aware they were covering for me. Anyway they have backed down and I am getting plenty of hours and most of my regular hours back but to be honest they really upset me and I don't want to work for a company like that so I will move on when I find a job that is right for me. Yes I spoke to ACAS and they will have been classed as my permanent hours.

Rebel I have a 0 hr contract, at first I thought like you but mine fits gr8, as I can up and down hrs as I please, in the winter I do less as the animals take more time in the summer I always do extra and put the money away for the winter.

It all went downhill again but luckily I got offered another job with a different company that is salaried so I have started there. Been there two weeks and really enjoying it.
