I know every horse is different but I'm just wondering if there is a bit/bits which are popular for welshies?

Our little A is ridden by her very novice little jockey in a loose ring French link snaffle. Cerys rides our little C in a loose ring happy mouth snaffle with roller, as she was constantly chomping on metal bits but settled immediately in this. Same bit for everything, including jumping and hunting.

He's in a Wilkie now as he was when we bought him, we've never had any trouble so as they say don't fix what's not broken but he's doing something really strange things with his mouth so I'm thinking he may not be too comfortable?

Maybe he needs his teeth re checking or doing? A wilkie shouldn't be causing him discomfort all of a sudden if he has been fine. x I use the tranz lozenge bevel from neue schule that looks resembles a wilkie, I can recommend this bit highly after struggling so much to get my mare going this bit helped wonders! Hope you get things sorted x

NS tranzangled lozenge loose ring. Use it for dressage as legal. NEVER put anything in a Wilkie. With right schooling they should all go in a loose ring.

Ashleigh what is the mouthpiece on your wilkie?
My welsh like the neue schule trans angled mouthpiece. So i have the trans snaffle for schooling dressage and jumping . The trans pelham for showing and the trans universal for xc and hunting as it has different rein options and strengths should we need it.

It's a single jointed wilkie. Why are people's opinion of them bad is it because of the poll pressure? does a hanging cheek give similar result?

Mines not a Welsh she's a traditional cob. Almost 3 years ago I bought a magic bit for my old welsh who was sadly pts so never got the chance to use it on her. It was recommended on this forum. My traditional has just had her back done and has learned a bad habit of leaning on my hands. So today I thought I would try this bit and wow what an amazing bit and she went really well in it. No leaning, no on forehand just working really well. I think I went through every bit possible to get it right and I'm so happy

Mine is in a loose ring revolver snaffle - it has a central oval swivel lozenge which allows each side to work independently of each other so gives clearer signals to youngsters. I've also used wilkie bits on several ponies quite successfully and I don't understand why so many people don't like them, much better IMO than awful 3 ring 'gags'. Wilkie's are a sort of updated Uxeter Kimblewick. I'm sure we all agree that a bit is only as kind as the hands that hold the reins that are attached to it and if a pony goes well in a particular bit then there not a lot wrong with said bit.

My tiny Section A (11hh) and Section B (chunky 12.2hh) both find the magic bit with a little port more comfortable than the neu shule snaffle as their little mouths are too small for anything with a joint in the centre.
