for ridden coloured what bit do you have to use ,he is in a loose ring french link and changing to a hanging cheek because he is getting a little strong .i was told correct bit was a pelham don't realy want to put him in one as he is only rising 7 and don't like strong bits unless they have too .

The correct bit is a double, used correctly you ride on the bradoon rein only using the curb when needed. You should use a curb chain with a lip strap, the softest type is elastic, or you could use a leather or double chain link. The single chain link curb is the more severe.
However there is no rule stating you have to have a double, When judging I would prefer a horse to go well in a snaffle than badly in a curbed bit.
