This is for a friend - My friend has owned her horse for over a year with her sister, but recently due to person reasons she has been unable to ride! This horse used to be perfect and never out a foot wrong but now we can't even get her into the stable without rear, bucking, galloping off! So I've started taking her back to basics with this and we are making slow slow progress! Next step - bridle!! She is fine with the saddle but getting the bridle on her is proving impossible! We have the rear, bucking, pulling etc. I have tried all the knowledge I have and all proving to be unsuccessful... So what next? My friend is ready to give up with her and sell her, but she would be un suitable to sell however at the minute! We have had her check all over by the vet, dentist etc and all have said she is fine! I need ideas please before we give up!!

It sounds like something significant is wrong with her. Can you lead her into stable in just a head collar? Lunge her in just a head collar? If so, and all is ok with that then it' would indicate bridle issue. Was she ever tied up in her stable and maybe hurt her poll? How is she when you touch her poll? vets can miss many things...they dont have xray vision. Definately go back to complete basics and build her trust again.

She is getting better with the leading... I have taken her back to basics with that and she will listen and respect me now, however her owners she will not - she just rears etc with them! However I Beleive this is due to her owner losing confidence with her now!
It is definitely a bridle issue I've tried a new bridle and bit on her to eliminate this, and once the bridle is on she is perfectly fine and will work lovely when we are on board also!
So i am unsure on where to go from here? I have no knowledge of her hurting her poll however, I did think she may have due to her behaviour! I just don't know what's best to do from here....

Has a physio/chiro seen her? I had one that suddenly refused to be caught and qe eventually had to herd him onto the yard. He'd put everything from poll to pelvis out in the field playing/slipping/probably falling.
Is she turned out in a headcollar? If so, she could have had it caught on something and scared herself?
Or if electric fencing, maybe had a zap on the poll trying to graze underneath?
I spend a lot of time watching my herd and it's amazing what they can get up to in the field and you'd never know if you didn't see it.

If she's fine with you to lead and ride then I doubt now that there is pain. It sounds behaviour related with the owners. They need to go back to the basics and establish themselves as the "herd" leader like you have.
