When I first sent a pony to a producer I was not sure of the protocol. She went to someone who was recommended by a friend who knew her. I left my mare there for rebacking. I called after a week to ask how things were going and she apologised for not getting in touch but all was well and when did I want to come and see her. Time and day agreed I turned up and pony was brushed and tacked up infront of me, she was covered in straw from laying down so obviously relaxed. Small person was popped not pony and producer said she had been no trouble and was going well. I was invited to go at anytime to see her so did so unannounced (always the best way to make sure what is really going on).
My ponies have been with her since then. I have seen a number of ponies come for breaking schooling and go home with happy owners she is always busy but always has time for her clients.
I am sorry you have had a bad experience

That is awful, I worked for a producer and they charged £180 a week even though that is a lot of money people know how well the horses look and go and that is why they rarely have a free stable you only have to look at their results to know the job they do with the horses, With regards to saddles a client bought a fylde Marjorie brand new it was only used for that horse when she came down to ride her horse the other times was worked in their own tack which was actually a leather Marjorie so same saddle which she wanted him in. Some of these producers have no respect and really are not professional enough to do the job! Disgraceful I broke bottom my back and sent my mare away...NEVER AGAIN!! took me months and months to put the weight back and it still didn't come back as well as she looked before. Makes you think what a waste of money would of rather turned her out as she came back no better in any way. If people cant handle the horse I would rather them say so you can bring them home rather than feed them money each week.

To be honest If they don't have the time to get on the pony themselves then they obviously have too many horses you send it to them not their grooms. My mare was only rode by the producer once a week and the groom the rest and lunged I didn't send her to the groom otherwise id of kept her at home and had a friend on her. Ridiculous and a lot of people don't take mares on as they don't want the hassle I was told that when enquiring about sending her away. Good luck and I hope you get her out soon. Yes that a shame about home produced have to wait till next year now x

I have 3 ponies for backing. One of the reasons I will not send them away is I have been stung when sending one away. It gets me that they have Facebook pages etc or happy to brag about results but they can not text , e-mail or send you a video clip when you are the customer. She obviously knows she is in the wrong or else she would have had something more to say. I would never send good tack with any pony, they usually come back knackered 9 times out of 10. I have stewarded at shows where in the show ring the state of the tack is a lot to be desired on animal ridden by top producers, so I dread to think what their working tack looks like at home. I have sent 3 ponies away but never had a contract, perhaps that's the next step. I'm afraid it will take a while for you to get over this, I known I am very wary now.

I won't make the same mistake again. I know that I keep my ponies to a high standard and will not jeopardise that again. I hate sending them away but thought that it would improve her. The way she has behaved has shown that she knows exactly what she has done. xx

Terribly sad and expensive state of affairs. It makes me wonder how some people can call them selves producers sometimes.. X This is just it though isn't it. They do a bit of county showing and hey presto they think they are bloody marvellous. I would definately only go on recommendations from friends and I have seen some get stung by so called producers

We learnt the hard way having a pony produced. Pony was on full rations during snow- got Azatoria, worked on a fresh splint- and shown on it (lame!!!) Hung upsidedown on a haynet overnight, perhaps should have asked for more personal recommendtions, but we live and learn. I hope you get a positive outcome OP x

When we loan ponies out we do all sorts of checks and contracts are signed, complete with a list of tack and its value. We are paying someone to look after our animals perhaps we take too much on trust. The person who actually did the best job and followed instructions was a retired jockey who had no recommendations. The girl that help me sometimes has six to break and compete and rides them all her self, perhaps its when they hit the 'big time' the rot sets in.

It seems I am not alone. A sad state of affairs. I know there are some producers worth their weight in gold but think that there are too many amateur producers. I do realise that everyone has to start somewhere however surely the best way to get custom is to give a good service so that clients will return and recommend you to others.... common business sense xx

Yes there are.many producers who think they are so good but in reality they lack the skills needed. You learn the hard way as an owner. It happens in the in -hand show scene too. More money changes hands for the ridden though and even more expertise is needed.. There are various ways you can be cheated when you entrust your equine to a stranger(even a well recommended one)

Send a recorded delivery letter to her stating absolutely everything for which you are claiming , give her a date to settle it by,,,,,, then if you get no response go to the small claims court ,,,, dont mention this in your letter though ,,,, it will be up to the court then ,,, and the chance are they will find in your favour , im not sure of the cost of this process , but saw it last week or so on a Dominic Littlewood program lol, you can print the smalls claim form from their online website , good luck

Quite often, there are two sides to every story and if this side was full of lies, you would expect the producer in question to at least want to put the record straight, especially when so many people have worked out who she is without her name having been disclosed.
What I find interesting is that the producer is a member on here and hasn't made any attempt to disprove what has been posted. Surely that says a lot...

Im shocked at the producer to be honest...dosent look well at all.
If i were this particular person i would be defending myself - especially seeing as the entire board knows who it is without even uttering a name?

I have to admit, I've no idea who this person is, there are so many wannabe producers out there that everyone seems to be a pro these days!
