We went to a very popular show at the weekend and during my daughters show the judge appeared to be talking to her steward most of the time and to top it off when the next pony came out to stand and wait for their turn - the judge just turned away from my daughter who was still finishing off her show and never even acknowledge her at all ! ! ! - in my opinion VERY RUDE. When you have got up at the crack of dawn, put the diesel in your lorry, paid your entry fee, got the pony ready etc etc the least the judge could do is watch you. Rant over.

What a shame. I always try to watch fully and always say thank you. I judged at a show yesterday in the tiny tots/kids ring. I love it even though it's exceptionally hard as they all try so hard and are all brilliant riders and so pleasant and polite I try and give as much time as possible to them and ask about all their ponies and what they do with them as they are the next generation of riders and need as much encouragement as possible. Hopefully your daughter still enjoyed herself and wasn't to disheartened.

Totally agree. Even if they dont like your pony they should watch your show and acknowledge you. Happened to us very annoying!

soooo annoying , i have had this when showing in hand ,and i just simply stop until the judge is looking again , give a polite nod ,as if to say , 'are you ready now' , and i carry on , not quite the done thing i know , but then nor is not watching your competitors

I've had this happen to me as well, so very frustrating. As you've said, we all put so much time and effort in, so the least they could do is give everybody an equal amount of attention even if they do not like the pony.

Just checked and the same Judge is at Equifest in a class we have already entered ! Don't think we will bother to even get him out of his stable.

It has happened to us too......so I can understand your rant. Even if the judge doesn't like your pony, at least have some manners and watch it go round, all you are asking for is 2 minutes of their time

Oh god I would change your class at equifest now, no point wasting money under that judge again, I wonder how them judges would like it if they came to give you feedback and you didn't even look or acknowledge them.. think they would feel angry too maybe they should turn the tables so they can see how we feel!!

I had this happen to me where I was doing my individual, and the judge was chatting to another rider in the line up who they obviously knew!

Its so frustrating, lost count of the times I've finished my show, stood still, turn to look and salute at the judge and they aren't looking. So rude, judges complain about rude competitors. But us competitors spend extortionate entry fees, diesel money, get up at ridiculous hours, I think we deserve some respect.

Unless you're lucky enough to own a top class and I mean top class horse/pony I think its worst at high level shows
As above you put hours into the prep, the fees, the diesel, in a class of 20/30+ you stand there waiting your turn only for the judge to completely ignore you or not even watch, after sitting there yourself and watching them give twice the time/chat and smile to the top end of the lineup its pretty soul destroying especially for children!
Not all judges I may add do this...
I'm becoming a smaller county show convert, done a few lately and the people have been lovely inside and outside the ring

I'm getting a few more judging appointments now, and slowly building up to going for panel, I won't miss a beat, a foot fall, a salute

Had the exact same thing at Equifest! The judge was stood watching the part bred class in the ring next door to the point the pony that was pulled 2nd went on the wrong leg and she missed that and mistook it for a pony who was dropped from 2nd to 5th because of this apparent wrong leg!!! When I looked over during my show, she wasn't even watching any of the shows!
