i was just reading through the schedule and noticed that it says you have to be members of PUK or NPS to enter HOYS classes. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so why? Because i thought HOYS was a seperate competition from nps or puk!please help!!

Are there no entries on the day there was last year

Yes you can enter on the day. I think it is £16 for normal classes but having to be a memeber for the Hoys classes has buggered that up for me.

Oh, God I think I have got it wrong again - I have disappeared under an avalnche of schedules, entry forms, passports, etc and now I have run out of cheques - and the bank hasn't sent me another cheque book - is this some sort of warning? I added up all the memberships and registration and am now having a huge decline. I shall have to have a Pot Noddle to cheer myself up -well - they were left in the lorry from last year and they will be out of date soon and I am being economical and thrifty in view of the cost of showing ponies!

I agree with Natalie everyone should boycott PUK this year then they will have to change but too many are renewing their membership so its no use moaning if you are playing into their hands why cant everybody stick together it is the only way.

I have decided that I am going to join the NPS as its a lot cheaper too and we are planning on doing the summer champs at Malvern as well. At least we can do HOYs class but not put money in puk greedy mitts

Lets just remember that BSPS are often doing the same as PUK, if you are competing in a qualifier on a type of pony for some that maybe the only type of class/qualifier they can do i.e 13.2 show pony therefore why is BSPS any different?! maybe the time has come where we should just be affliating to shows we want to qualify for like showjumpers. e.g to jump at hickstead you have to be a member of hickstead.

I have not renewed my Puk membership, I am showing 4 ponies this season, and I am sticking with NPS. I think Puk is all about the money I do think that most people with M&M's that are competing at HOYS level, are usually a mamber of Puk or NPS....Although I dont understand why you HAVE to be a member of one to do a HOYS class?

sorry evaluating i dont understand what you are talking about you have to be a member of the BSPS If you want to compete in their HOYS qualifiers that they put on at HOYS, surely that is common sense but PUK to my knowledge do not put on any classes at HOYS so why should people have to be a PUK member, it is the NPS that put on the M&Ms at HOYS or have i got it wrong? each society has membership for their own shows and people make theirselves members mainly to qualify and compete at the societys summer championships to me PUK have nothing to do with HOYS and thats why i have made my family members of NPS this year i have finished with PUK until things really do change.

i thought hoys was a completely seperate competition!its the m and m workers at hoys which nps run, i thought the flat classes were run by hoys themselves, which is why cant understand why you have to be a member of either puk or nps to compete in them??

As far as I understand it. HOYS belongs to BSJA they have 'sold' the rights to it for a number of years to Grandstand Media, so HOYS do not run qualifying competitions FOR HOYS. HOYS itself is run by Grandstand Media and they just run the show itself NO qualifying rounds. So in order to have the m&m flats run under some form of rules etc you have to be either PUK or NPS, seems mad in one way but then at least all competitors have to abide to some regs. I suppose as long as HOYS get their levies sent in to them, they don't mind who collects it for them PUK or NPS!! ??

Just to let you all know - I still have not had a reply to my email on Tues to PUK Mind you I didnt expect one. Apart from asking why we had to be members for the hoys classes I also asked them why they were charge £32 for the hoys classes when the Levy was only £9 and why members did not get a reduced entry fee for the hoys classes as well.
I very much doubt if I will be getting a reply

While we are on the topic...one of the scheduals said for the WHP classes both the horse and rider has to be a member or BSPS and the horse has to be a member of PUK.
Does this sound right?
Im sure last time i was doing them i only had to be a BSPS member to do the hoys/rihs qualifiers? I will email or phone them, but before i do, could someone tell me if this is correct?
Thanks!
