Just wish riders would acknowledge drivers, Several times now whilst driving around "Burtonwood" Warrington I have come across riders who are oblivious to whats going on around them!! they never wave you on when safe to do so,too busy texting, chatting,Don't even look at you and nod or just a little wave and a Thank You would be nice to the vehicle behind you waiting patiently to be able pass safely. Poor drivers (good drivers) don't know if you are riding a well behaved horse or a nervous horse.
It's now wonder drivers get pi###d off with horse riders on the roads, It's people like the ones mentioned that give good respectable and courteous riders a bad reputation.
And don't get me started on the horse and cart!!

I never call a car around if it crashes you are at fault, If you as a driver can see if its safe to pass then as a driver you should pass. If im on a abit of road where you cant see if its safe to pass I will try and find somewhere to get out the way if I can when riding
I always say thank you to courteous drivers on teh road but at the time you drive so close to me that your mirror touches my foot you'll get a smack with whip off the top of your roof

Thats right, if you wave a car past and there is an accident then you are liable. No reason why they can't say thank you for drivers slowing down though

You wouldn't be liable at all! Drivers are responsible for their own actions at all times as are riders

I am very nice on the roads, pay attention to everyone even if a queue go by I will put my hand up to everyone to thank, trot out the way if I can and will flag people past if I can it is very clear, but when I don't get a thank you or if someone flies past me I am not friendly at all and they get my thought loud and clear! Had many of arguments where people have flew past and stopped to argue trying to say that horses shouldn't be on the road they soon shut up and got in the car when they had my mouthful anyway as its them who don't deserve to be on the road with that attitude and careless driving, but I agree so many people moan about drivers when in fact they is a lot of careless riders on the roads too who need a good kick up the ass.

I get so frustrated when I encounter ignorant riders, they make the roads unsafe for those of us who use manners while out riding by antagonising motorist. If I feel I am in a "squished" unsafe position I will request traffic to wait, trot on to a wider safer place and then wave the traffic past and thank them to make it clear I wasn't hogging the road purely acting safely, and on the whole received a polite reaction back. You are not liable if you wave traffic on, it is still their responsibility to proceed with caution in the same way if somebody flashes you out of a junction in a car and you had a bump, the blame would lie with you not the person who flashed you out.
I am entirely with you on your rant xxx

I am also sick of riders who are ignorant to other road users. As a rider and a driver, like most of us, I see both sides, but a polite and courteous response, when a driver has been considerate, costs nothing and yet the amount of goodwill it generates could well save another riders life, if that same driver slows down for them too having been treated with respect for being courteous.
Oh and don't even get me started on the extremely rude and ignorant massive groups of lycra clad idiots that call themselves cyclists, they are just the worst of the lot and have no respect, manners or show ant courtesy for other road users. We are always getting them through Burtonwood and I can honestly say that I could count the ones that have shown courtesy, wether I've been riding or in the car on one hand with about 4 1/2 fingers left over, they all appear to have a chip on their shoulders about anyone else using the roads except them. I think it's high time the sportive type huge groups should be banned from public highways, as quite literally hundreds of them coming towards a horse is terrifying for a lot of horses and has the potential to cause a huge accident, let alone the way they ride 3,4 and 5 abreast and ten rows deep, hogging the whole road and prompting people to takes risks on order to pass them, because they know that they will cycle for miles blocking up the road to actively prevent any vehicles passing them. In my day this was always referred to as causing an obstruction and something you could be done for.
That's it cycling and rude rider rants over, until tomorrow when I see both of them on the roads again - by the way unless very buff, men should not wear those lycra outfits in public, I personally hate being stuck behind a row of saggy builders bottoms peering out of cycling shorts, belonging to men who would be more at home in Crimpelene!!! GRRRR!!!!

I too don't mind the "buff" cyclist I see you too have suffered the non buff ones , sadly there are too many of those and not enough buff ones . Burtonwood as a small village is getting worse and worse for these gangs of cyclists and certain roads in the village are no go areas at certain times due to these inconsiderate idiots. I would have thought that as a vulnerable road user themselves, they would have a little more appreciation of other vulnerable users such as riders, but they just don't care. I know fine well that if anything happened as a result of a cycling incident, said person would just bog off and leave you to it. I now wear a head cam to cover the front of my horse and a tail guard cam covering the rear to hack out in, and any dangerous incidents I will go to the Police with the footage, in order that the person concerned can be taken to task. If a few more thought that their actions were accountable for maybe it may them think twice - at least that's what I'd like to think.

I always slow down for horses no matter what direction they are in front or approaching lane. I also get peed off by the ignorance of some riders who simply think it is to be expected. Yes we know that just as cyclists, you have a right of way on the road but being a car owner and paying road tax for privilege to use the roads, it really does not hurt to be polite back.

Its my bug bear too. I regularly encounter some ladies a couple of villages away on their very wide and steady cobs, usually riding abreast, reins at buckle ends, chattering away to one another. This road is a back road but a busy one as its a route between two towns and in a tourist area with lots of strangers not aware of the road, lots of bends and blind bits. They NEVER acknowledge me or any other vehicle when being over taken. There is no wonder drivers get annoyed and little wonder some don't slow down if they get ignored. I've also almost had horses been ridden at my car on the wrong side of the road when the hunt is lurking but that's another story.........
It only takes a second to raise your hand, smile, nod your head, its not rocket science!!
