Last week my friend noticed a scabby area high up on the inside of her geldings back leg about the size of the palm of your hand, no hair loss just like big chucks of dandruff coming off if you scraped it with your nail, she presumed the fly rug straps had rubbed so bathed and popped some antiseptic cream on
The flys arnt as bad at the mo so shes been putting him out without his fly rug on (so cant be the straps) ...this morning she fetched him in and its oozed over night, still no hair loss, the scabs are under the hair, the 'stuff' coming out is watery red/yellow and had run down his leg overnight. She asked me what I thought and I'm clueless, never seen anything like it. She bathed it again and most of the scabs seemed to wash off
Allergy? He is sensitive with his skin, any ideas?

Could the pony be itching there with his teeth? Mine can do that sometimes and if I hadn't seen him do it I would doubt his flexibility. He itches there if he gets hot and sweaty

Thanks Harry yeah possible, we bathed it and covered it in silver spray last night so if he has a silver nose today theres the answer!!!....
Its very odd, the patch is bigger than we thought it feels like eczema the oozing an leeking is recent (maybe from itching it) so a bit infected. The yard owner said her boy has some odd dry patches on him too, so we're wondering if something in the field is maybe causing a reaction, or insect bites as they graze next to a river
