i am really struggling to find a saddle to fit my section c my saddles always slip to the left, i know this is due to her having one shoulder slightly larger than the other i have been recommended the thorn large deluxe pad does it slip ? and would it still be suitable for workers i have seen pics of the exmoor from hoys in his and it looks just like a saddle when a rider is on board but i would like some more reviews please

We have a deluxe plus for our shetland , leather with suede seat and knee / thigh roll. It does need a non slip pad to keep it really still but our shetland is very flat backed and everything needs a pad on her . It's a fantastic saddle though and has really helped my daughter's riding as it sits her in a position a normal saddle would unlike the Zoe Snaps pad we had . It does look just like a normal saddle and if you didn't get on with it you would likely be able to sell it for almost what you paid for it very quickly as I've seen them sell immediately when they come up . My daughter jumps in hers and finds it really comfortable . I like the fact that I know it will always fit our super wide shetland .

I would go back a stage and ask why one shoulder is bigger than the other?

My own personal view is that I think you can get away with them on a small breed with a child riding, but they look out of place on a large breed. If you have a good saddler, they should be able to flock a saddle more at one side while you work to correct a muscle issue. I have a Highland that likes to block through one shoulder after dental issues so I know exactly how you feel, but you can get round it. My pony blocks less now and is in a more regularly flocked saddle now.

We have already Identified the issue due conformation, it is only very slight but as you will all know any small thing can affect your saddle The physio visits regularly and reccommended these as she is going to change shape I do really like the look of them but I would much rather try before I buy Does anyone know if this is possible ?

Can't really comment on the saddle pads but you should definitely be able to work with a saddler to level up your saddle as he is and work to try and even him up a bit more! It's the remedial type stuff I love!!

I've got a Thorn deluxe plus that I use on my Sec C mare (she's 13.2hh). It's a lovely saddle, I've had a good gallop with mine and love it. I use it with a limpet pad. I'd be happy to jump in it (only reason I haven't is that my mare is arthritic so cant jump anymore).

We use a Prolite saddle stay pad but I would think a,limpit pad would work as well .

Ive ordered a delux pad a couple of weeks ago and it should be here in the next couple of days. So excited! I will be using it on sec d's and plan to jump in it if alls well. Amanda does make special numnahs to go underneath but said they also go well with the nummed ones. I already have a nummed numnah with a non slip top and sheepkin lining so will see how it goes with that first. Hope to recieve the pad this week so will report back once ive used it. Just to let you know thier was a 4 week waiting list so if you want one order quick! Like others have said it will sell again quick if you dont like it. I loooked for a second hand one for a while and never found one!

A shammy leather is meant to be good to stop saddles moving as well but I have never tried it . When I ordered our saddle from Amanda the wait was only 12 days so they must have loads of orders on at the moment .

Hi, I have just seen your post. From a remedial point of view there would be ways to stop the saddle slipping due to conformation whilst still wearing a saddle with a tree, if you would like to pm me I am more than happy to try to help in anyway. Sam

Most wooden treed saddles can be adjusted a little, if your saddle fitter does it, some believe it shoudln't be done, many of us have done it for years very successfully. Obviously if the pony changes a LOT then the tree shape can end up wrong. I personally think a treed saddle is a much better option for all but tiny riders. General saddle fitters don't always udnerstand the type of trees and flocking that natives and wide ponies need, just like I wouldn't get involved in making a custom dressage saddle for a high withered horse, we all have our strengths, and most local saddle fitters prefer fitting "regular" shaped horses. I have a few local saddle fitters recommend on to me when they see a horse or pony that is wide and flat as they don't feel they can always do the best job for them.

I do HOYS flat classes and hunt , jump, everything on my thorn pad, which is on my 13.2 fell. It came with a pad and unlike all the other saddles I have tried, including ideal and native saddle company, it does not slip when I'm riding... Love mine!

I'm going to buy one for our traditional coloured who is 4, hes is like a table top very flat. I must have tried 20 saddles and nothing has fitted so going to bite the bullet and buy a thorn as I know hes going to alter every year for the next three years and I just cannot afford to keep changing saddles even if I could find one to fit.. I saw one on ebay but it was only twenty quid less than a new one
