I overheard the other day at a show that welsh are going to be marked down for having no shoes? tried to research seen nothing so surely this isn't true is it? We have never had any shoes on the welsh and never been marked down at all always done very well in the ridden and all of ours have good strong feet without to me if you don't need shoes why have them?

I cannot see that being the case but I know a lot of the old cob men expect them shod as they think it enhances movement but I wouldnt expect to be marked down for not having them shod.

Depends on your definition of "better"!

Enhanced movement more excitable to watch inhand and ridden, but on the other hand they is the ones that are great without shoes and when they have them on exaggerates knee action far to over the top and they don't go anywhere which I think is dreadful to watch.

My mare went reserve champion at a county show in hand and my friends colt medalled with no shoes so no need for them. I ride my mare with no shoes on and we were placed in our only county ridden class this year.
Forgot to say both are welsh c's.

Shouldn't be marked down at all. Too many people are concentrating on this high knee action, and forgetting about the real engine...

We always show in shows unless only going to the odd show but does help with grip on the grass rings

I have a homebred section C and a section D, we do dressage and showing and in the past 5 years both have only had one pair of fronts as we were hacking out on stony paths. I have never been marked down for being unshod-it's never even been mentioned in fact. I would go further and say the only time I would ever have hinds on is if I needed to use studs, the risk of injury to self and other horses when turned out isn't worth the risk. Even when out in pairs they hooley around and fly buck. I would contact whichever society the show was affiliated to and query it. I've done PUK, BSPS and NPS.
