I know this sounds foul ad it is really but one of my cats has started going to the toilet in my bedroom! He's about 11 and is completely himself other than this horrible habit he seems to have started. What is worse is that he tries to cover it up with whatever he can, and drags any clothes etc that are not put away onto his mess! I know covering it up is natural but it's annoying when it's with my clothes. He doesn't appear stressed, uses his tray for wees, and does go in the tray when I shut my bedroom door, but if I leave it open he goes in there. I have tried cleaning the area with disinfectant and febreeze so it doesn't smell like he's been there. Any other ideas?

Well if all else fails, you could always provide a litter tray in the area of your room that he favours, at least it would save your clothes etc.
Have you had him checked over by the vet, just to make sure there isn't a reason for what he's doing? Has anything in his routine changed, any other cats, change of diet, anything changed in the room where his usual litter tray is?

agree with the guys about making sure the litter tray is cleaned out after every time (even just a wee!) as some cats wont use a tray if it is dirty. and milliesmum has pretty much said the rest!!!

Thanks everyone. I am trying to stop him going in the bedroom but I don't want him to start somewhere else! I do keep the tray pretty clean so sounds like a trip to the vets may be in order just to check things out.

hi really sorry to say this but our old cat used to do this when he started losing his marbles and his facalties and he died a couple of months later. Your prob best getting a litter tray one thats got a closed top on so it doesn't smell so much or a self cleaning one they are about 35 - 40 pounds but well worth it x
