My very tiny 8 yr old daughter got a new pony this summer as her section A got injured. She clicked and fell in love with a 13hh WPB mare that she knew was really going to be her pony to grow into and one that she was going to have to really up her riding a level as she only has to think it and the pony responds. Jumping is really both hers and the pony's love and on Sunday they competed in their first 70cm class together riding her beautifully and going double clear. I am really proud of her. That is a wonderful picture, well done to both of them. We have been to buy a first off lead pony for my only just four year old today, so I know how you feel, I expect it is only going to get worse (sorry!)

Thank you and good luck with your new pony - they progress from that nice steady first off lead pony quicker than we think possible and yes, I agree it does get worse! (Sorry)

What a cracking picture. Your daughter really looks as if she is enjoying the show jumping. She will grow in confidence and yes I also feel it does get worse watching. Good luck.

Thank you richvale, rumble that is a great pic of your daughter, I'm with you in waiting for the pics rather than watching 'live'

No, watching doesn't get any easier, try watching them doing Open PC event XC. I watched my daughter aged younger than yours rumble jumping her 13.2 Welsh C over much bigger hedges than that! Pony was a gem though and would have jumped a house safely, he was always giving big horses leads out hunting.

sarahp, stop it now! We have our wee pony home now, and watching my wee 4 year old go it alone is so scary. Probably not helped by the fact that if something doesn't go entirely according to plan, he leaves go of his reins and says "It's not working, I will just hold my handle."! Today was much better, though, we did asking Smokey to stop, then I walked ahead 10 steps, then William and Smokey walked on to me, halted again and repeat. Then he went ahead 10 steps, halted and I caught up. That was much scarier! William did say he wanted to trot by himself, but I pretended I couldn't hear.

Thanks sarahp, I have jump judged on our PC XC course many a time and do hope I have several years grace before we move towards the Open course. I am optimistic it will be easier by then - if not I'll just have to buy shares in rescue remedy!,

I never found it got easier - but when they get old enough to drive the transport and go on their own you can stay at home and not have to watch!
My daughter is far braver and more gung-ho than I ever was which probably doesn't help.
