I have a 13hh pony for my daughter. She is a confident rider with soft hands. We bought the pony to compete at WH with her and they are jumping really well together. My problem is a bitting issue. She does pony club tetrathlon and needs to have control cross country. She came with a roller snaffle which we quickly discarded as the pony is keen jumping and her brakes weren't wonderful. When she is really overexcited she yanks the reins out of her hands. She doesnt do it very often and she doesn't in any way worry my daughter, she adores the pony. We have put a Tom Thumb on her but someone told me that it is not the right bit for her if she does that. What would you put on a very keen pony? It is not at fences or in the ring that she does it, but generally on the flat in an open field but i would like to know that she could control her when i send her out X country on her. She has done a lot of hunting previously. We went X country training and she was fine for an hour then got a bit silly and was yanking the reins out of her hands for the last ten minutes, when she had jumped the fence. Any advice please. (It makes her sound like a mad pony but she is brilliant in everything else, and i have never seen my daughter so happy on a pony)

My daughter has a 14hh that sounds quite similar. We ve tried and tested quite a few over that last couple of years but have found a nue Schule Waterford universal. She can't grab onto it and pony loves it. She's in a snaffle most of the time but needs more for cross country and the universal is brill, she has so much more control and brakes too. I got mine off ebay for £20, I managed to borrow one first luckily so I knew it worked.
