Hi all, im just wondering what's entailed in collecting sperm to freeze, from our arabian colt in the future..
our yard isnt the best to keep him entire, as i like my horses to have daily turnout, to be horses, and.. our yard isnt designed for this, although its ok at the moment, i know as he gets older, the problems may arise..
I was in a similar situation a few years back with my other arab, he was a 2 year old colt, who was a handful and with limited turnout, i made the decision to have him cut.. even though i know It was the right decision for him, i regret every day i didnt get some semen from him..
he is only 7 months at the moment so im in no rush to do it yet as he still gets to go out and play...
any advice would be greatly appreciated..
his mum who i use to own has now been sold to saudi arabia along with his dad, and the breeding is something i would like an option to use in the future from my boy... xx

Choose a top class establishment used to collecting and freezing semen, and have a chat with them, better idea than asking us on here! He will be checked out and a test freeze and thaw done, then if you go ahead they will store it for you and send it out when required.

Send him for a test collection so they can access the quality and go from there, it isn't so costly when your not sending outside Europe.

Have a chat to Ben Wentik at Scotland AI services he is very helpful and knows his stuff. Not all semen will freeze.
