Just been looking at schedule and correct me if I am wrong but didnt there used to be restricted classes and open classes? If you qualified in rest/open then you could do restricted class and open class? It now appears to be called a restricted open class and you only qualify to do the open class if you have won a qualifier and can do the winter winners. Am I reading that right?

The qualification changes for the Winter Champs came in for the winter season - I had to put different wording on the NCPA Cumbria schedule for the show I ran in November.
All clearly explained in Rule 462 of the 2015 rule book (page 72) but basically Open ponies are no longer required to qualify BUT all animals placed 1st to 4th in the Open Restricted classes now qualify for the Premier League at the Summer Champs, & the winners of these open restricted classes get a qualification card for the Winter Winners classes at the Winter Champs
The restricted ponies that have qualified also receive qual cards but MUST be wearing an armband to denote their restricted status

So Janet you say open ponies don't have to qualify for open but if they don't win an open/restricted class there is no class for them now at the winter champs?

No cards for novice classes but I was sent cards to be given out to the restricted qualifiers (not necessarily in the top 3 so passed down the line as appropriate) plus the winter winners cards for the open/restricted so perhaps check with the show as to what happened to the restricted cards (the judges at Cumbria had not seen them before as they were the first winter quals they had judged, so I presume if the show sec had not put them with the rosettes no one would have realised they should have received one & some show secs are more aware of procedures than others)
Shows still have to send in the results to BSPS so there should not be any problem with verifying your qualification (as long as the correct animals wearing armbands were recorded!)
Qualification for open classes at the Winter is "relatively" recent, so maybe they have decided on the Winter Winners to replace them & just put on the RIHS classes as the open ones - can't comment on that as I have no idea, but was just trying to explain the new qualification rules.
Sorry if I have only confused you more!

I was confused too! Clarified it at our area show, we won so got a winter winners card which is the only open ticket per class & a restricted card & restricted BSPS rosette and there are 3 tickets per class for that.
On another note anyone else struggling with the time tabling of winter champs?? 4 of the heritage LR classes are on Fri, only 1 on Sat & 2 on Sun. Could this not have been more evenly spread?!

Novice ridden and restricted whp for 1 of my ponies are on at same time! 4 classes Friday and 1 Saturday afternoon (same pony)

It seems a nightmare this year! For us the novice, restricted & winter winners finals are all on Friday as well as an RI qualifier, which looks as if it may clash with winter winners! But only one class Saturday afternoon, again only one pony!

i thought the card for winning the open/rest was your open ticket ie winter winners? Hannah, Restriced is highest 3 wearing an armband qualified 3 ponies all follow each other so have confined myself too taking one (plus saves on the £££)

Save the pennies for later in season I think!

Yes I think so. Seeing as most county show entries close 1st April ?

I know that the summer champs you jump in catalogue order and then reverse catalogue order the last two days. Does the winter champs do the same or does it just do catalogue order?
