I need to let off steam, I went for a second interview and although it went well. I knew I did not have the job...I rang the agency and explained this and she said she would let me know either way as they would give her their decision the next morning. Three days later...nothing, no phone call...how rude. When these agencies ring you they are chasing you through high waters, you must do this, ring me as soon as...and yes I do...so why can they not afford people the same curtesy...I find this a lot with agencies and have spoke to many other people and they have said the same......they also want you in to register when you have applied for a job, you go in and they say "Well that job has gone" but i can help you...once registered...you never hear from them again...it appears to be mostrly about numbers, perhaps some of these agencies should be named and shamed

Sorry but I'm going to have to disagree in part. I worked for an agency for 8 years supplying staff. While I appreciate you were not called when said is totally out of order the registering before you go for a job is standard practice,
The agency make a placement fee from you getting the job and unless you are registered and have had a full initial interview the agency cannot possibly match your person spec to the job spec they will receive from their client.
People just been sent ad hoc would result in inferior or unsuitable candidates being put forward and a lack of respect from the client. Or ultimately if you are not 'tied' to the agency the client could hire you directly thus resulting in the agency losing the placement fee.
Agencies may seem like a pain in their processes but they have practices to follow, the non return of calls is unprofessional in my opinion, even if it's just a quick call to say they haven't heard anything yet, I always said to my candidates that I didn't have time to call them every 2 minutes but they were more than welcome to contact me as often as they liked.

I used an agency once or twice, they can be very hard work, although one of my best jobs came from an agency. I also know someone who has worked for a couple of them and yes it's all about numbers, they don't care and I know for a fact there are people who will set up poor matches just to make their quota.

Depends how the bonus schemes work. I don't know many who pay on interviews. It's placements that count and it's the client who has the final say in that so while you say they are hard work you should see what goes on on the inside. Now that's hard work!!!

With respect if you knew you didn't get the job and told the agency as much I'm not sure what you think will be different by them calling you back, yes it's a little unprofessional on their part but it doesn't change much.
If you feel the agency will open new doors for you, try a different tactic and call them to ask for any feedback the interviewers gave and ask them if you could pop in and see them for a chat
Personality as well as the necessary qualifications is terribly important when recruiting and those putting people forward for jobs need to know them a little bit to get the best chance of a successful outcome for all
A while ago I managed a customer service department for a big company, I opened the office from scratch and had to find all new staff. When selecting an agency I used the one who could assure me they had met and pre-interviewed candidates, I needed them to do part of the job for me in essence. By far the best staff I got were ones that the agency staff knew best, the people had got ahead by calling in to the agency to show their face a couple of times a week. The agency were keen to find those people jobs and they were carefully matched to us.
Many agencies get paid in two parts - on recruitment and when the person has been in the job X months so they need to know the job/person match is good
Rather than feeling angry against the agency find one you are happy with and keep in touch with them
In short to get ahead you need to be the person that when an employer calls an agency they say 'yes I have just the person for your job'

I agree with the OP - Agencies are a bloody nightmare and quite frankly do bugger all for their money! A little while ago I was hounded by agencies because I had posted my CV on a job search site and the most useless ones would call me in for no particular job - just in case something came in. This in my book is unacceptable behaviour. It costs a lot of money trawling in and out of London for nothing. When I eventually got a job the agency didn't even interview me - I went straight to the employer for interview!
good luck OP with your hunt!
