Was planning to go to equifest have recently bought a 153 non native coloured and at equifest they split at 148 not 153 like bspa and chaps. What do people think about doing the horse classes with a 153?

Better doing a horse class with a 153 than trying to pretend it's smaller than it is, which, sadly, seems to happen so much - how some people get their horses measured to the height they want is beyond me!

Totally agree have no intention of trying to get her measured less than she genuinely is, just wondered if anyone had been in this situation whether it is worth entering or not

What do people think about doing the horse classes with a 153? At CHAPS Champs, there are classes which are specifically for 148-153's. There was recently a Previous HOYS pony Winner ( Broadways Dazzling Moments?) who measured out and still qualified HOYS as a horse, even though smaller

where has this information come from is it new as I have competed at Equifest in 153 and under non native coloured classes for the last two years On the timetable the classes are just split as plaited horse and plaited pony as separate class so my 153 would be in the horse class whereas obviously with chaps and bspa the classes are split at different heights, I thought my 153 may not compare or be able to compete with large horses and just wondered people's opinions if they had competed in the horse classes on a 153. I'm guessing they are splitting it at 148cm

Would be really pleased if someone said it is split at 153 not 148!! I do wonder why ponies are often defined these days as 153 cm - in my day the maximum height of a pony was 148 cm (14.2 in old money). Why should that change? Moving off-topic to a point, I also wonder why a Section D can now be any height - if it's a native 'pony' surely it shouldn't go over 148 cm?

The Equifest schedule has always said ponies and horses but each class has a description etc at the back on the schedule and the height limit is stated in there and ponies are up to and including 153 in the coloured classes or they have been in the last two years

Clifton, this will honestly make me so happy! I was thinking of only going for a day as plan to do pairs with a friend but if it's 153 will definitely do the week! Wahoo!!

I think there is amateur, novice, home produced, restricted and opens in non native coloured, plus the class that you have to qualify for if you want to go in it. Plus the riding club ring which has a coloured class I think that one was probably 148 but there is loads of classes to choose from, it is a great show

Equifest changed their splitting height a few years ago to be in line with bspa as at one point the bspa had their champs there too - the first year we went they split at 148 so my 151 spent half the week being a horse and half being a pony!
